Welcome to Chicago Biofuels
Chicago Biofuels is committed to educating the public and businesses on the benefits of biofuels in Chicagoland. Our partners in the Sustainability Network are working to make our city more fuel independent. All of the oil we collect from restaurants gets used in renewable energy projects in Illinois. We are committed to using locally sourced vegetable oils to make fuel.
This is not a new concept. Rudolf Diesel, inventer of the diesel engine, stated in 1912 "The use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today. But such oils may become in course of time as important as petroleum and the coal tar products of the present time" Over 100 years later the need for a low carbon, renewable, clean burning fuel is more important than ever. There is a lot of work to do, and we need all hands on deck.
The Sustainability Network links Restaurants to Biofuels Producers
Chicago Biofuels works closely with the cafeterias and restaurants to collect their used vegetable oil. We process the oil and supply the Loyola Biodiesel Program. The program is expanding to increase capacity for the new Loyola Biodiesel Production facility.
